Modern New England Inspired Outdoor Living Glenview, IL
I designed an entry walk of reclaimed street pavers with bluestone accents as one of my first landscape projects. Natives of New England, my clients loved their unique entry walk for its use of materials common to the East Coast; they reconnected with me 18 years later after a significant home addition. Picking up the same themes, I designed their outdoor living space. Granite boulders with drifts of perennial flowers encircle the raised grilling area. The step down to outdoor dining and living area has a quilted pattern of New York bluestone with old street pavers. Set within lush plantings, the circular form of the outdoor room is accented by a curved brick seat wall, creating a sense of intimacy. The stair-stepped design approach creates multiple engaging levels that embrace the natural slope of the backyard, without creating the need for decking that would float nearly 42 inches above the ground.
