No-tell motel transforms to Cali spa retreat

Michael’s clients were excited to have a home with a pool. Only, not this pool. The systems were in bad shape and the infrastructure surrounding the pool was reminiscent of a scary no-tell motel. There was a need to create a relaxing atmosphere, but without starting from scratch.

Michael repositioned the spa away from the house and added a spillway water feature, designing a multi-sensory focal point. Picking up on the rectangular nature of the pool, he created intimate social areas of concrete and Trex decking to add depth, texture, and function. The awkward narrow space between the two sections of the pool appeared intentional after crafting a fly-over bridge, constructed from the variety of decking materials used throughout the project. Installing an outdoor kitchen on a spacious deck provided ample dining space large enough to accommodate the entire family and all the kids’ friends.
